First Eco-Tourist resort for Murcia

In times of financial crisis property developers have to really pull out all the stops and find new and innovative ways to get holiday makers to part with their hard-earned cash. With the aim of differentiating itself from the competition one promoter is hoping to achieve exactly that, with the announcement that Mendoza’s Natural Resorts is to build a non-residential “eco complex” close to the village of La Pinilla near Fuente Alamo.

The complex to be named “Villa Eulalia” will cover a surface area of 80,400 square metres and will have a capacity of 500 guests. It will cost around 25 million Euros to complete and should be operational by 2010. The complex will need 80 permanent staff and around 20 indirect staff to operate.

“Villa Eulalia” will have exclusive areas for plants grown using eco-agricultural methods such as a vineyard, olive trees and fruit orchard. In addition there will be areas for leisure, health and beauty, sports, parking and a predicted 148 traditional “casas de campo” for guests to stay in. There will be only one floor with 2 bedrooms and will be constructed using “bioclimatic” architecture with high tech systems to manage the house. The resort will function as an “apart-hotel” and will not be residential.

There will be 24 hr security on site including the use of video cameras.

The ecological aspect of the resort means that all lights will be low energy usage; there will be a system for water purification to re-cycle water where possible, garden refuse will be used to make compost and electricity vehicles will be used on site.

Aimed at the “senior” market there will be the chance to learn traditional campo techniques such as how to make cordials and jams and guests will also be able to pick their own fruit. There will be popular courses such as gastronomy to sample traditional food of the region.

Work on the complex will last one year and will begin as soon as the town hall in Fuente Alamo has completed the paperwork, although the licences have already been approved in principle.
