Mazarron exceeds 36,000 inhabitants

The town hall in Mazarron has completed a demographic study to evaluate the actual population of the town in order to help meet the needs of the areas inhabitants. The study is based on information from the last municipal census.

The most important fact to emerge is the growth experienced by the area in the last 8 years from a population of 21,575 people to 36,223, a huge 40% increase.

Many of these are foreign residents and Mazarron is now home to people from 83 different countries, according to the statistics. Most of the foreign residents are from the UK with a total of 6,872 people registered. This is followed by Moroccans (3,876), Ecuadorians (2,586), Germans (622) and Romanians (239).

Mazarron also has a young population with only 14.6% of residents over the age of 65. So the Mazarron mix means that 53.8% of the population are Spanish and the remainder consists of over 28,000 EU nationals and just over 8,000 arriving from outside the EU.

The food, climate and the customs of our host country are cited as the main reasons that seem to attract more foreigners to this coastal corner of Murcia and many choose to live here all year round.

And luckily for the ladies there are more men to choose from in Mazarron as almost 54% of those living there are men and 46% are women. But donít let that put you off Ė Mazarron is a great place to live whatever the reason!
