More money for airport

The Spanish airports authority (AENA) has announced that it will be investing a further 4.5million in order to undertake several improvements at San Javier airport in Murcia. Funds will be spent on extending the departures terminal and approximately 1.4 million will be spent on further modernising the arrivals. The airport of San Javier in Murcia is becoming increasingly popular with travellers and between January and July of this year more than 900,000 passengers used the airport. This is approximately 23% more than in the same period last year. By the 31st December more than 2 million people are expected to have used this airport during 2006.

Airport expects 2 million passengers

The San Javier airport in Murcia is becoming increasingly popular with visitors to the Costa Calida who choose to use this smaller, conveniently located airport rather than El Altet in Alicante. The Director of San Javier airport, Doa Angeles Navarro, has announced that almost 1 million passengers have used the airport so far this year. Last year a total of 1.4 million passengers were registered and the Director of San Javier airport is expecting 2 million passengers to use the facility by the end of 2006. The increase has been attributed to the number of flights offered by the low cost airlines as well as several new flights connecting Madrid and Barcelona to San Javier. These flights are becoming increasingly popular with business travellers or those seeking an international connection flight from Madrid.
